Previous Artist in Residency - Design Your Own Folklore Character. We studied Eric Carle’s work in mark making techniques, designing your own collage paper, making scales, fur, wings, faces etc.
A collaborative, school-wide art project celebrating folklore and imagination. Each year group explored a different world, from a fairy garden and enchanted forest to the mysteries of the undersea world, bringing a collection of fantastical characters to life through a series of vibrant, interconnected displays.
I created bespoke Design Your Own Character templates to encourage students to develop their own imaginative worlds. Through character-building and storytelling, students explored their characters’ names, personalities, magical powers and interests, bringing their own fantastical ideas to life.
We explored local and global folklore and discussed Pokemon, Disney, Harry Potter and Pixar characters that are directly inspired by folklore.
